2023 is flying by, spring has sprung and warmer temperatures are very much in sight. It’s a particularly exciting time of year for the techSPARK team. That’s right, preparation is well underway for our annual awards show to celebrate the best tech in the west – The SPARKies 2023!
The SPARKies is the highlight of techSPARK’s yearly calendar, and we’re pleased to say you can start getting your nominations in TODAY! We’re sure you know of a multitude of award-worthy creative minds, impactful startups and budding talent – we’re even more sure they will all appreciate your time in recognising their hard work.
Don’t forget you can also nominate yourself, your organisation and your colleagues. You can see the 17 categories at the bottom of this article, and you have until 18 May to place your nominations.
Get ready for The SPARKies 2023
This year’s get together will once again be a summer fiesta, taking place on Thursday 13 July. The SPARKies 2023 will be an extra special occasion for another reason. As we’re curating the Bath Digital Festival this year, we thought it would be fitting to host the party during the festival. In case you hadn’t guessed – The SPARKies 2023 will also be returning to it’s home in the historic city of Bath.
Parade Gardens will be our home for the evening. Located at the heart of the city, the beautiful grounds are typical of Bath’s style. The characteristic Bath limestone buildings are surrounded by immaculate gardens – we’re hoping the sun will join us for the occasion. Parade Gardens is prized by local community and visitors alike. Some of you will be well accustomed to The SPARKies celebrations. This year we will be bringing you the signature casual awards show with a selection of food, drink and various activities, included in your ticket. We can’t wait to bring you a fun filled evening in true SPARKies style.
There will be 17 awards given to the best organisations and individuals working in South West tech today. We’ll be back with all your favourite awards – from shouting out the Best Place to Work in Tech to commending all the companies creating a positive impact with the Good Award and putting the spotlight on the younger generation with our FutureSPARK award to recognising years of commitment through the Lifetime Achievement award.
As always, there’s been tonnes of activity that we can’t wait to highlight. techSPARK’s Managing Director, Ben Shorrock, says, “£920 million of equity investment was raised in 2022 between all the fantastic tech and digital businesses in the region. This impressive total illustrates just how much creativity, innovation and research is happening day in and day out across our community. We can’t wait to bring everyone together to celebrate these achievements in just awesome one evening.”

Plus the People’s Choice where you tell us who you think the best tech company in the South West is and the ultimate winner will be chosen by the SPARKies audience last night!
You’ll have around two months to get your nominations in, so nominate your favourite startups, outstanding uses of VR, dedicated mentors and the best examples of tech for good in the West of England here.
We’ll have more information on the judging, voting for the People’s Choice and eventually the longlist & shortlist. It’s been a great decade growing alongside our amazing tech and digital community, and we’re looking forward to partying in person once again this July – see you there!
