1) Who is the founder behind TympaHealth? What is their role at TympaHealth?

I’m Dr.Krishan Ramdoo and I’m the founder of TympaHealth. I lead the overall strategy, vision and direction of the company. I also oversee R&D within the company, ensuring the TympaHealth system works safely and accurately and that we are always innovating. I am also responsible for raising funding from our investors to scale operations and expand our reach into new markets.

2) What’s the story behind TympaHealth? How did the idea come about and what problem are you trying to solve?

I began my medical career in 2009, serving as an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgeon for over a decade, and later completed a PhD in ear and hearing health.

This really opened my eyes to challenges patients face when accessing ear and hearing health provision. The equipment was inadequate, and the workforce was underutilised. This is when I realised that there was a need for a digital pathway that would bring the ENT clinic to the community; thus, TympaHealth was born. It is the only fully comprehensive ear and hearing health solution, combining cutting-edge technology with accredited training, ENT and audiologist support and a referral pathway to specialist care – empowering pharmacies, care homes, and audiology clinics to deliver expert-led care within their own communities.

The startup, founded in late 2017, has since grown to scale, extending its reach beyond the UK into countries such as the US. Over the last 3 years TympaHealth has supported over 400,000 patients and raised nearly $50m in total.

3) What’s been your proudest moment or milestone as a company so far?

My proudest moment is the impact we’ve had on patients. In just 3.5 years, we’ve helped over half a million people in the UK and worldwide. As a single surgeon I could never have reached that scale. Knowing our work at TympaHealth has touched so many lives is what makes me most proud.

4) What have you personally learned as a founder on this journey, and how has it changed you?

I’ve learned that resilience is really important. As a founder, there are always highs and lows, and countless competing priorities. What’s changed me is learning to stay focused, keep moving forward, and maintain balance – drawing strength from family, friends, and exercise.

5) What advice would you give to someone wanting to start a healthtech or medtech company?

It’s important to live the problem you are trying to solve and really understand your target customer. In the early days I would spend time with customers across the country, seeing how they used the product and what they found difficult so that I could help solve problems and build a better product to get to product market fit.

6) What excites you most about the future of healthtech/medtech?

Healthcare is a sector that has an exciting future. What excites me most is seeing AI move beyond promise into real-world clinical pathways. The future of health tech isn’t just about algorithms, it’s about embedding AI into everyday care, enabling earlier detection, smarter decisions, and more time for patients. The real breakthrough will be when AI doesn’t just innovate, but truly transforms the way we deliver healthcare in the future.
