Back in July, we were proud to win not one, but two Sparkies awards – HealthTech and The People’s Choice! It meant a lot, not just because the Bristol & Bath tech community recognised our work, but because it showed that our mission, to reduce uncertainty in epilepsy diagnosis, really resonates.
So, what have we been up to since then? Quite a bit…
Attending the ILAE conference
This month, we headed to the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) British Branch conference in Bournemouth to showcase BioEP, our digital biomarker that detects seizure risk in EEG data, even when it looks ‘normal’ to the human eye. Connecting with leading clinicians and researchers was a powerful reminder of how urgently innovation is needed in epilepsy diagnosis. We also hosted a symposium alongside Phil Tittensor, Consultant Nurse for the Epilepsies, and Dr Kelly St. Pier, Consultant Clinical Scientist at Young Epilepsy, exploring the science behind BioEP and how it’s being used in practice.
Alongside this, Neuronostics was invited to the International Epilepsy Congress in Lisbon, as winner of the 2024 Epilepsy Foundation Shark Tank competition. We gave a talk within the ILAE neurotechnology section, introducing BioEP, sharing results from our foundation studies, and outlining our ongoing clinical workshops.
Continuing our ongoing research and clinical trialsÂ
We are currently running three clinical trials. Our largest prospective trial, which is focused on exploring the clinical utility and accuracy of our technology in first seizure clinics, with the aim to reduce uncertainty and delays caused by inconclusive EEG results. Another is exploring prognosis, looking at how our technology could support predictions around treatment response and long-term outcomes. The third is centred on paediatrics, working with leading NHS partners to better understand and manage epilepsy in children. Finally we are finishing up our first single site trial, which explored how our technology could improve the confidence of clinician’s decisions when diagnosing epilepsy.
Building the team and raising funds
Behind the scenes, we have been growing the Neuronostics team and progressing our next round of funding. Scaling up means we can support more patients, accelerate development and bring BioEP to new markets.
Working closely with the voices that matter
We continue to work hand in hand with charities like Young Epilepsy and Epilepsy Action. Their insights and training help keep us grounded in what really matters, listening to people living with epilepsy, and ensuring our technology reflects their needs.
What’s next?
From preparing for future regulatory approval in the US with the FDA, to expanding across more NHS Trusts, there’s a lot ahead. We are so proud of the progress we have made and excited for what’s to come.
