Bristol Hack, Basekit Platform
14 to 15 June @ 11am

Join Bristol Hackers this weekend for an overnight hack. All you need is your laptop and your imagination. The fantastic guys at BaseKit have provide the space, some where to code overnight and some API’s to build on.

It’s time to get your hack on!

We’ve got representatives from SendGrid and PayPal Developer to give you a head start on some hacks. And if you want to talk to anyone else, team up, or just have a chat about the hacks in advance then check out the GitChat set up by @teabass https://gitter.im/andrew/BristolHack.

SW Mobile – Ooooo look something shiny

sw-mobileThere’s a ton of cool new tech that’s becoming a big part of mobile ecosystem that extend beyond smartphones and tablets so let’s get together and talk/demo some of it. Played with iBeacons? Coned you way in to the Glass explorers program, used the new Chromecast SDK? or got your hands on an Oculus rift? Come and tell us about your experiences – even better if it’s connected to a mobile app.

It’s a broad meetup for demos, side projects or full on commercial projects we like the mix.

Are you interested in meeting the studio residents, talking about a specific projects or curious about pervasive media? Why not pack a sandwich and join them for one of their Lunchtime Talks and Open Studio Friday.

Studio residents nu desine will providing an update on their hugely successful electronic musical instrument, the AlphaSphere and giving a first insight into their next project going into R&D now, the BetaLoop.

SETsquared – Negotiation skills workshop, Engine Shed
24 June @ 10am

man-and-womanNegotiation skills are of key importance in business. This workshop combines negotiations theory backed up by audio examples together with practical exercises related to real world business cases.

The workshop studies the various modes of negotiations, behaviors, techniques and attendees discuss real world application of these modes. You will investigate sources of negotiation power, techniques to test the resolve of the other party, how to ask for a better deal and what to do when the crunch happens.

Run by Greville Commins, Entrepreneur-in-Residence.

Computer Science and Creative Technologies: Social Innovation Challenge (3 day event)
25 June @ 2pm – 27 June @ 8pm

UWE*UWE students only* Lockleaze is an area close to UWE’s Frenchay campus, with high indices of deprivation and social exclusion. Indeed, some areas even fall within the UK’s most deprived areas in terms of education skills and training. Connect Lockleaze is a project which aims to rectify this by providing learning and training opportunities in a wide variety of subjects, particularly in IT, but as a project they have also recently faced some challenges.

This is your opportunity to work in teams to design and develop a solution to this problem with support from experts from industry and the local community. On the final day, teams will pitch their idea in front of a panel of judges and the winning team will get a prize!

Coffee, tea and lunch will be provided each day.
