Update: You can get a more up-to-date idea of where the Bebod story is now by checking out our profile: How Bebods took on the world from Bath, one body part at a time
Maybe when relaxing on holiday, a week seems long and luxurious. In the midst of a start-up you hardly notice it pass, until it’s Monday again and (in our case) realise we’ve just 6 weeks till beta-launch.
Our to-do isn’t shrinking, but just getting bigger, and distractions lie around every turn…
- Build thousands of assets for the avatar creator
- Create 3-year finance plan
- Review bebods World progress
- Book flights and Airbnb flat for Web Summit
- Nail which will be bebods game no 1
- Send that licencing pitch off
- Sort the licencing terms and conditions
- What territories should we get TM coverage in
- Book train tickets to London to meet those crowd-funding people
- Brainstorm some simple, core marketing messages
- Write this blog for TechSpark….
What we need is focus! I’ve been reading The Organized Mind: Thinking Straight in the Age of Information Overload which covers the neuroscience of memory, but also has a load of suggested ways to deal with to-do list overload. Very recommended.
Top drawer idea
An old boss of mine had a fantastic, low tech, approach to this. He had three drawers in his desk. Every day the post came and anything he didn’t need to act on immediately went in the top drawer. Anything already in the top drawer that no-one had chased him about went into the middle drawer, and similarly from middle to bottom.
Every Friday he tipped everything left in the bottom drawer into the bin. Now, if someone could build me an app that did this, we might get on top of things.
This weeks focus (and we’ll shove everything else in the middle drawer for a while) is about getting the core avatar creator made, with enough assets (hair, moustaches, hats, t-shirts, eyes…etc) for us to let it loose in some tough customer trials i.e. let a load of kids play with it.
“Instead of our illustrators beavering away in solitude we’ve decided on a more collaborative approach – send us your picture on Facebook and we’ll bebod you”
Instead of our illustrators beavering away in solitude we’ve decided on a more collaborative approach – send us your picture on Facebook and we’ll bebod you. All the bits of design that go to create your unique bebod will then make their way into the creator.
Now to empty my bottom drawer into the bin – seems to be full of stuff from accountants, lawyers and the bank….
Garry & Glynn
Bebods is the result of almost a year’s creative collaboration between Glynn Hayward (founder of BAFTA-awarding winning creative agency, Complete Control ) and Garry Pratt (co-founder of Teachit, a pioneer in UGC and freemium models in education).
