The ARKive In Your Pocket consortium (AIYP) are hosting an event to showcase an exciting new app at Bristol Zoo Gardens on 8 October. The new app, named Wild:i, was designed by AIYP specifically to test a new system multicasting scalable, multi-media interactive services over Wi-Fi.
AIYP’s objective is to “provide an enhanced immersive audiovisual experience for visitors to wildlife locations and ‘events’ using wireless networks.”
There are two start times for the event, which you can book online, and you can join either according to your timetable.
Start time 1: At 14:30 there will be a short introduction and a tour of the zoo to experience the Wild:i app – delivered with a blend of GPS-enabled wifi and iBeacons to a Toshiba tablet device.
Start time 2 : At 15:30 there will be a recap on the Wild:i app for those that have just joined, followed by a video presentation and a discussion on exploitation and future research.
At 16:30 there will be a drinks reception and opportunity to network.
You can see more about how the app will work in the video below:
AIYP are funded by Innovate UK (previously the Technology Strategy Board), and bring together Toshiba, University of Bristol, Mubaloo, 3C research, VID communications, BBC and ProVision. AIYP’s objective is to “provide an enhanced immersive audiovisual experience for visitors to wildlife locations and ‘events’ using wireless networks.”
