Recently named the fastest growing Tech cluster outside of London, the South West region is increasingly becoming home to large companies and start-ups. Forbes.com has even called it a “booming technology sector that has sprung up in and around the towns of Bath and Bristol”.
Celebrating this collection of exceptional talent and links, 2014 marks the third year of Bath Digital Festival.
Held in the beautiful city of Bath, the festival looks to put the area on the map with Bath, Bristol and the South West area as a whole featuring heavily in the event, which has been organised by volunteers and funded by local sponsors.
The growth of the festival has continued this year, attracting big names and partnering with tech heavyweights Smashing Magazine and the widely successful TEDx, both of which have roots in Bath.
Smashing Front-End Boot Camp
Smashing Magazine was founded in 2006, and has become an invaluable hub of innovation and ideas for web designers and developers.
As a tech industry influencer, Smashing are sure to bring informative and innovative fun to the festival, delivering their very first Smashing Front-End Boot Camp, a practical and hands-on mini-conference, full of insights and practical tips to apply to digital projects.
TEDxYouth@Bath
The events of the Festival are not only for those already working in the digital industry, but also anyone who interacts with digital on any level. A great example is the presence of TEDx at the Festival.
Created with the mission of “ideas worth spreading”, they support independent organisers who want to create a TED-like event in their own community.
TEDxYouth@Bath began in 2009, when curator Charlotte Calkin decided to host an event for local 16-18 year olds. It began with 120 participants and has grown to sell out at Komedia with all the local schools and colleges participating. This year, TEDxYouth@Bath will be hosting a series of talks with wonderful speakers.
Showcasing the very best of the people, products and companies in the region, the festival will also be home to The SPARKies awards.
With a full ten days of digital activity designed to cater to all ages and knowledge levels, check out the full event programme and get involved with the growth of this digital cluster.
