Update: You can get a more up-to-date idea of where the Bebod story is now by checking out our profile: How Bebods took on the world from Bath, one body part at a time
X-Factor fever has set upon the nation again and the show has done more than just steal our Saturday nights. It’s stolen the phrase forever. It’s now impossible to use it without drumming up images of Louie jumping around excitedly, a tear rolling down Cheryl’s cheek or Simon’s unchanging wardrobe and hair.
But the phrase has been with us for over 80 years and its original meaning has been skewed a bit:
‘A circumstance, quality, or person that has a strong but unpredictable influence.’
Not quite the meaning we think of today. Although, many an X-Factor winner has had an unpredictable future
So does bebods have the X-factor?
Well it’s come out of the creative maelstrom that is Glynn and the team at Complete Control – their client list, BAFTAs and other awards speak for themselves, and the public seem to be voting with their ‘likes’ on FaceBook. In fact we haven’t come across anyone yet who doesn’t seem to love our little digital folk.
“It’s an amazing journey to be building and launching a business, not driven by spreadsheets or any grand business plan, but born out of a creative spark, a sketch in a notebook”
It’s an amazing journey to be building and launching a business, not driven by spreadsheets or any grand business plan, but born out of a creative spark, a sketch in a notebook, that our illustrators and developers continually play with and improve.
I think bebods would sail through the rounds, the judges’ house and the live shows with a cheeky wink in their eyes. But, just like those finalists before, the future is definitely unpredictable.
We’re pinning our hopes on creativity winning through. Of course we’re coupling this with great tech, good business ideas, fantastic people and some forward planning, so that hopefully however unpredictable the future is, at least we make it to the finals.
With only three weeks to go till our ‘finals’ at Web Summit Dublin, we’d better get working on our set design, costumes and song choice I guess…
For a bit of fun we’ve even beboded the X-Factor judges – check them out on our FB page (for a taster you can see Simon left)
Garry & Glynn
Bebods is the result of almost a year’s creative collaboration between Glynn Hayward (founder of BAFTA-awarding winning creative agency, Complete Control) and Garry Pratt (co-founder of Teachit, a pioneer in UGC and freemium models in education).
