bristol-internshipsThe University of Bristol Internship Scheme has reopened for the new academic year. The scheme works with SME (Small to Medium-sized Enterprise) companies to support internships for students and recent graduates and can provide funding to employers to assist them with providing a wage.

Internships can either be 4 or 8 weeks long, worked full-time or part-time

Internship choices

Small registered charities, social enterprises and startups can apply for a maximum of two internships. Other organisations can apply for a maximum of four internships. All internships are considered on a first come, first served basis.

“Different funding streams are available depending upon an organisation’s size, type and preference”

The different options for offering  internships are as below:

1) 4 week/140 hour UoB Internship. Open to small registered charities (i.e. employing fewer than 25 people), social enterprises and start-up organisations (i.e. trading for two years or fewer). Funding to an organisation is £910.
2) 4 week/140 hour match-funded UoB Internship. Open to any SME. Funding to an organisation is £455.
3) 8 week/280 hour match-funded UoB Internship. Open to any SME. Funding to an organisation is £910.

How does the funding work?

Different funding streams are available depending upon an organisation’s size, type and preference. All interns must be employed by the organisation and paid at least NMW (£6.50/hour from October 2014). Funding grants are to be used towards an intern’s wage and an organisation must be able to pay interns PAYE.
