Blu Wireless Technology is a Bristol-based silicon IP company developing low cost 60GHz WiGig technology (a wireless standard typically 10x faster than Wi-Fi). Last week, despite facing some stiff competition, they brought home the Elektra 2014 New Company of the Year award.
Now in their twelfth year, the Elektra Awards recognise the achievements of companies across the European electronics industry. They aim to reward best-practice in key areas including innovation, sales growth and employee motivation.
Winning expertise
Blu Wireless Technology specialise in WiGig – a new high-speed wireless standard that allows very fast data transfers and media streaming. It’s fast enough to transfer all the data from a DVD in 15 seconds.
“Blu Wireless is a very exciting silicon startup that will make a big impact in the coming years”
The judges, who were looking for evidence that a company is building a business to be competitive in global markets, said: “Blu Wireless is being driven by experienced industry veterans and this is a very exciting silicon startup that will make a big impact in the coming years.”
Blu Wireless Technology’s CEO, Henry Nurser (pictured left), commented: “We believe this award is a recognition of the world class technology we are developing to enable wider adoption of 60 GHz for applications by our customers in the professional telecom and consumer markets. Moreover, it acknowledges the unique combination of wireless system and complex System on Chip skills within Blu Wireless”.
