Kainos is a digital technology solutions company, operating internationally with offices in the UK, Ireland and Poland.
Though it’s the third time overall, 2015 marks the first year Kainos features in the prestigious list since opening their Bristol office.
Kainos currently employs 26 staff in Bristol, but are looking to add a further 24 to their workforce. As head of talent development Colette Kidd puts it: “If we find the right people, there’s no upper limit to our recruitment.”
Nurturing talent
Kainos were “…lured by the talent pool and growing tech hub” in Bristol, and run an AppCamp for first year undergraduates and a CodeCamp for school leavers. While the sixth formers and college students participating in CodeCamp get the chance to attend a prize-giving ceremony at E3, undergraduates taking part in AppCamp spend two weeks honing their coding skills and making a fully functional iOS app.
“We have programmes in place to drive the development of top talent in the industry, at every stage of experience”
“It works for us and them,” says Kidd. “We are able to spot the talent for the future and we give them valuable work experience.”
Graduates of AppCamp 2014 will be returning to Kainos for longer placements this year.

Climbing the ladder
Full time staff at Kainos work in three markets: healthcare, public sector and financial services. One of the company’s largest projects to date was the electronic medical records (EMR) platform, Evolve. NHS trusts across the country have chosen to implement Evolve EMR and Kainos were announced ‘Technology Provider of the Year’ at the 2014 HealthInvestor awards.
Collette Kidd puts the company’s success down to letting “…our people shape the environment.
“We listen to feedback that we are given from our staff. We have quite a relaxed work environment, flexible working hours and casual dress”
