The Pitch, the UK’s biggest small business competition, where people compete by pitching their business ideas to judges, mentors and investors, returns for its seventh year.

You can enter provided your business is less than three years old.

With a final prize of expert business mentoring and support, plus extensive press coverage, it’s a great way of giving your business that all important headstart.

However, more importantly, the journey to the final with The Pitch lets you get involved with boot camps to perfect your business plan, practice how you sell it to others, and be introduced to the right people, so it is a really useful exercise to examine your business model, even if you don’t become a finalist.

“We want to educate and empower entrepreneurs and early stage startups like you to succeed in business”

As The Pitch organisers state on their website: “With our inspiring programme of awesome advice, ideas and events, we want to educate and empower entrepreneurs and early stage startups like you to succeed in business.”

To enter you need to submit an application and a 90-second pitch video to impress the judges. The entries close on 31 July 2015. Although applications aren’t open yet, you can register your interest for the Pitch 2015 here.

The Pitch final will be held on 12 November where 30 finalists will pitch to a live audience of judges, investors, mentors and supporters.

Pitching and business advice

idea-imgIt’s well worth checking out The Pitch’s website too as it is also full of free advice for people who own or want to set up a small business.

This includes advice on writing business plans, getting your work-life balance right, top tips from small business experts, among many other useful topics.

The Pitch 2014

TechSPARK was at The Pitch last year and we were very impressed with the standard of the pitchers and the advice and workshops offered at the time. As the 2014 winner Rebecca Coates said:  “A big thank you for everything you did to put on what, in my experience, is the best small business event in the country!”
