Just this week travel giant FirstGroup, well-known for providing bus and train services across the UK, has struck a 5-year innovation deal with Bath-based information experts IPL.
The companies are hoping to work together over a number of projects with the aim of enhancing the way it operates its train companies and, ultimately, the customer’s travel experience.
With projects already in the pipeline ranging from new mobile services to an overhaul of the company’s operations, FirstGroup hope the advancements will help to reduce delays and enhance travel experience and customer satisfaction.
“By investing in innovative ways to draw together information and present it to the right people, passengers using current and future FirstGroup trains and stations will notice a real difference”
Duncan Waugh, Head of Rail Information Systems at FirstGroup, said:
“Up-to-the-minute information in the hands of staff and customers is key to the successful running of today’s railway, and IPL will help us enhance the way we do this by using technology in intelligent ways.”
“By investing in innovative ways to draw together information and present it to the right people, passengers using current and future FirstGroup trains and stations will notice a real difference, before, during and after their journeys.”

info to First Group customers and staff
This should be great news to regular commuters around the UK and in the South West with First Great Western (a FirstGroup company) providing a major train link between London, Bristol and Bath.
Growing successes
This isn’t the first time IPL have had great success with large organisations. Just last month, they were shortlisted for two FSTech finance awards for their work in the creation of a smartwatch banking app for the world’s largest building society, Nationwide.
“We’re excited to be working with FirstGroup to create some truly cutting-edge systems”
Andy Cox, Innovation and Solutions Director at IPL (pictured above), added: “We’re excited to be working with FirstGroup to create some truly cutting-edge systems. We’ll be taking them on the next steps of their digital journey, exploring the art of the possible and finding new ways to use information to improve the passenger experience.
“We draw on our long experience of creating first-class, award-winning digital information systems, which include Nationwide’s online bank and smartphone apps, as well as UCAS’s cloud-based Track service.”
