Following on from innovation event Venturefest last week where TechSPARK was fortunate enough to hear Scott Wilcox, the Director of SXSW Eco (the go-to event for sustainability professionals) speak about eco solutions in a data driven economy, we thought it was worth mentioning that Scott told us SXSW Eco are looking for applicants for its Startup Showcase. You need to hurry though, the competition closes to applicants on 26 June.

“The event has become a launching pad for the latest innovations set to positively impact society”

Highlighting positive impact

The Startup Showcase is a live pitching event featuring 60 top companies from around the world all offering technologies and services that have a positive impact on society and the environment. It takes place in Texas at the Austin Convention Centre from 5-7 October.

They are looking for 6 companies to showcase for each of the 10 categories of cleantech and social impact companies:

  • Building
  • Energy
  • Global Health
  • Internet of Things + Smart Home
  • Not-for-Profit
  • Seed Stage (<$150K in funding)
  • Social Impact
  • Supply Chain + Product Innovation
  • Smart Cities + Transportation
  • Reuse + Recycling (Presented by Austin Resource Recovery)
  • Future of Science + Space
  • Water

Moving into its fourth year, the event has become a launching pad for the latest innovations set to positively impact society and the environment, and serves as a place of discovery for corporate, VC, angel and foundational investors across the country.

Over the past four years, SXSW Eco has hosted close to 100 companies through the Startup Showcase. Collectively these companies have gone on to receive seed and series funding totaling over $30M, acquire global brands as clients, partner with utilities and energy companies, and develop other significant business relationships. It’s clearly worth getting involved!
