Over the summer, the TechSPARK team has been working on a TechSPARK TV concept – a regular video that brings to life different aspects of the Bristol & Bath tech community; tech innovations, people, places, companies, events…
For the pilot episode, we followed a group of 25 London-based entrepreneurs on a day trip to Bristol, as they visited the Engine Shed, the Pervasive Media Studio, Just Eat and DeskLodge (a brand new co-working space that is opening up at 1 Temple Way). The idea was to document the day and also see the city and the tech community through their eyes.
It was a fascinating experience; first talking to these entrepreneurs at the start of the day, finding out that they knew almost nothing about Bristol & Bath and didn’t really consider the region to be that relevant to them as London startups. And then, within just a few hours of being exposed to just some of the great people, the places and the community, they were ready to become real advocates for the area. Some even considering setting up in the city.
Here are a few choice quotes from some of them:
“It has far more that reminds me of what I have seen in San Francisco, than what I’ve seen in London.” Oli Barrett, #LDN2BRS organiser and founder of Cospa.
“From a business perspective there is something unique about Bristol; it is about the fusion of creativity and technology and the sense of community.” Ella Goldner, NewCo & Universal McCann.
“I have a hugely different view of Bristol & Bath from this afternoon… it has honestly been mind-blowing.” Emily Brooke, CEO & Founder, Blaze.
If you have any feedback or ideas on how we can develop TechSPARK TV over the next few months, or if you are keen to get involved (commercially as a sponsor, or to help us create the content), please get in touch.
