As Bristol’s year as European Green Capital comes to a close, businesses and organisations in the West of England will be rewarded for their efforts in driving environmental sustainability in the work place at the Go Green Awards this Thursday.
Go Green was launched last February and is a collaboration between business leadership organisations Business West and Low Carbon South West.
The initiative was put in place to help organisations to find resources that can help them be greener and recognise the efforts made to create a greener environment at work.
“Go Green is a fantastic resource to meet, network and share ideas, and since its inception we’ve had has a phenomenal response with over 1,200 organisations signing up”
The ceremony will be held at The Bristol hotel and will feature 13 awards across the five themes of Go Green which include Energy & Efficiency; Travel & Transport; Planning & Resilience, to prepare for future changes; Sustainable Sourcing; and Happy & Healthy to encourage community spirit.
The awards will also feature The Driving Force Award to acknowledge a team or individual who has made the biggest impact and Bristol’s Best Green Small Business Award to recognise the SME who has most improved its green credentials across the five themes. Some awards will also include cash prizes provided by the FSB to help with the cost of implementing future green initiatives.

Use Go Green to get green
Amy Nicholas, Go Green manager, says: “We launched Go Green because we realised we needed an engaging programme for businesses to improve their sustainable credentials. Becoming European Green Capital 2015 was a great achievement for Bristol and we really wanted to involve everyone in order to promote the city’s values and efforts in the work place.
“Go Green is a fantastic resource to meet, network and share ideas, and since its inception we’ve had has a phenomenal response with over 1,200 organisations signing up.”
The event is being sponsored by local businesses who support the growing green business agenda, such as University of the West of England, Brunel Professional Risks, Royal Bank of Scotland, Global Design Solutions, and Bristol Airport, to mention a few.
“Go Green has been a tremendous success and everyone’s efforts will make a difference – whether you’ve been cycling to work or introduced more recycling in the office”
Alan Bailey, chair of Low Carbon South West adds: “Go Green has been a tremendous success and everyone’s efforts will make a difference – whether you’ve been cycling to work or introduced more recycling in the office.”
“We want these initiatives to continue and we’ll be working hard in 2016 and the years to come to drive a lasting legacy of sustainable action following Bristol’s year as European Green Capital – it doesn’t stop here!”
Go Green is a tool open to every business, charity and public sector organisation who want to make a difference to their local environment. For more information or to sign up to the scheme check out the website at gogreenbusiness.co.uk.
