Now that Bath co-working hub The Guild has put a bottom on nearly every seat, founder Tom Lewis is looking to expand. To help him in this aim Tom is calling for the general public to have their say in shaping the future of extending Bath’s available co-working spaces.

“We’re very keen to design and launch something that the growing tech and creative companies in Bath really need”

By registering your interest as a potential co-worker at bath.coworkinc.co.uk it puts you at the heart of the decision making, as Tom explains: “We’re very keen to design and launch something that the growing tech and creative companies in Bath really need.”

We caught up with Tom to find out more about the plans for the expansion of one of the South-West’s most successful centres for tech and creative digital co-working:

TechSPARK: What’s the vision behind the desire to expand?

tom-lewisTom Lewis (pictured left): When we set up the Guild in 2013, there was a real lack of professional workspaces for new tech ventures and creative freelancers in Bath. Our mission was to create a space which addressed this specific need, and we’ve been very successful – we now have around 170 members and have been recognised as one of the most successful coworking hubs in the UK.

However, that success has created a new challenge – as the resident companies here have flourished they have needed more space to take on more staff and grow.

TS: Why now?

TL: Until now we’ve just about managed to accommodate our members’ needs, but now we’re totally full to bursting it’s clear that we need to open a new space. A space is needed into which we can move the teams growing here at The Guild, plus other like-minded companies who wish to work in a similar environment and community that The Guild provides.

TS: Who should sign up to find out more?

the guild co-working TL: If you run a tech or creative-tech business with a team of 2 or more, and you wish to explore the idea of moving to a large space – housing a variety of different companies under one roof, with a single team handling all the facilities and infrastructure – then please sign up to stay informed.

“We want to build something of a similar quality and feel to The Guild”

We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved in Bath so far, and we want to build something of a similar quality and feel to The Guild, and to do it very much as an expansion of the same community.

TS: What do they need to do/How can they get involved?

TL: We’re really keen to understand how much demand there is from outside the existing community here at The Guild. If you think this could be something you could be interested in then please head to bath.coworkinc.co.uk and share your details, and we’ll stay in touch about progress and plans as we discuss options with various landlords and developers.

We’ll be asking for your feedback from an early stage as we’re very keen to design and launch something that the growing tech and creative companies in Bath really need.
