The Government’s funding agency Innovate UK and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council are looking to invest up to £5 million into a funding competition to help innovation projects stimulate new partnerships across robotics and autonomous systems (RAS).

With the South West already shining a light on some amazing robotics at the Watershed’s Being There Showcase next week and with the Bristol Robotics Lab putting the region at the cutting edge of robotics, it’s clear that some of the best the expertise is here. So if you have a robotics and autonomous systems project in the pipeline, it’s worth getting an entry together. Best be quick, though, initial registrations must be in by 19 October and final applications by 26 October.

Entrants can be businesses only; they should be developing new solutions to existing or emerging problems and need to show how they can speed up the development of RAS technologies towards demonstration and commercialisation. Projects may focus on technical feasibility, industrial research or experimental development.

Depending on the size of the project, businesses can apply for between £50,000 and £500,000 with a time-scale between 6 and 15 months – collaborative projects are also welcome.

To find out more about the competition and to submit your application, head to the Innovate UK website. You can also find out about future funding opportunities by following them on Twitter: @innovateuk.
