Following two successful previous South West events, a collaborative group that brings together people involved in financial technology and growing financial companies is running a further series of workshops and talks. Bristol Fintech aims to capture the attention of entrepreneurs who are starting up or growing a fintech company as well as professional advisers and funders – banks, angel and venture capital investors with an interest in the sector.
“Bristol has tons going on in tech and fintech – why is London having all the fun?”
The group was launched after Philippa Hann from national law firm Clarke Wilmott thought, “Hang on, Bristol has tons going on in tech and fintech – why is London having all the fun?” To nurture this, the group is looking for ways to engage with its members.
We spoke to Simon Tutton, part of the steering committee at Bristol Fintech, who says, “At the moment we are quite events based but are interested in other ideas as to what people are looking for – whether it be online forums, webinars or monthly support. Let us know what you want and we will try and do it.”
He adds, “We will also be having ‘hive mind’ problem-solving workshops where we invite two local companies to share a business problem or issue with a group of peers and have the group help them solve it.”

July’s event will be a pitching event focusing on helping companies pitch to investors with support from investment experts Deepbridge Capital, Bristol Fintech partners and special guests. With promises for future events, a topic being considered is how people might interact or build a community online, Simon tells us, “We thought the fintech and growth company eco-system was really gaining ground in the region and it would be a good idea to explore and hopefully grow the burgeoning sector locally.”
You can get tickets by using this Eventbrite link. It’s being held on Wednesday 5 July, from 14:00 till 18:30 at Hargreaves Lansdown, Old College Square South, Anchor Road, Bristol, BS1 5HL.
