Bristol-based Shadow Robot, one of the UK’s longest running robotics companies with clients including NASA and the European Space Agency, has been selected to exhibit at the UK’s leading innovation event – Innovate 2017 – this November.
The annual innovation showcase organised by Innovate UK brings the brightest and boldest UK innovators together to inspire businesses, individuals and government to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.
Selected as one of the most game-changing businesses across the country, the company will be one of just 100 others to have been specially selected to exhibit their innovations.
“Shadow Robot is an excellent example of the strength of UK innovation”
With no shortage of commendations for their work, Innovate UK Chief Executive Dr Ruth McKernan says: “Innovate 2017 will be an ideal platform for the Shadow Robot Company to showcase their game-changing innovation to national and international businesses and investors. I congratulate Shadow on their success in winning a place, they are an excellent example of the strength of UK innovation.”
Shadow Robot, which also has offices in London, moved to Bristol’s Future Space tech hub at the University of the West of England just last year to improve collaboration on project CHIRON – a two-year programme to design the ‘care in the home’ robotics of the future, along with with the Bristol Robotics Lab and Bath-based assistive technologies charity, Designability.
Their contributions to robotics include the dexterous robotic hand (pictured left) which was developed to solve real-world problems (including those associated with CHIRON).
“We’re really looking forward to meeting other delegates and discussing potential opportunities”
More recently however, they have completed an early version of their ‘Smart Grasping System’ – an intelligent industrial grasper aimed at the manufacturing industry – which they will be exhibiting at the innovation show.
Check out Shadow Robot’s ‘Smart Grasping System’ prototype in action at the TechXLR8 tech conference in the video below:
Currently in development, with further refinemnets expected over the coming year, the Smart Grasping System will feature built-in intelligence and vision, meaning that you can use one robot to perform the work of many robots, thus reducing the number of robots needed in a factory.
Rich Walker Manager Director of Shadow Robot tells us: “We’re over the moon to be selected to demonstrate at Innovate 2017. This is the second year in the row that we’ve won a place, which is a great compliment, as well as being an indicator that our work is resonating with companies around the world. Innovate 2017 is a must-attend event, we’re really looking forward to meeting other delegates and discussing potential opportunities.”
