Hundreds of gamers across the South West have their consoles at the ready, anticipating Bristol-based award-winning indie game studio Auroch Digital‘s brand new game – ‘Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics’.

“The Kickstarter hit 100% funding within just over 2 days”

The mythical action-strategy game has caused such a stir that its Kickstarter fundraising page has already almost doubled its target with five days still left to go.

Dr. Tomas Rawlings (pictured right), design and production director at Auroch Digital, tells us: “The Kickstarter hit 100% funding within just over 2 days, and now stretch goals are beginning to unlock to add even more content into the game.”

War in the underworld

Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics is a joint venture between Auroch Digital, IP-holder Modiphius, and publisher Ripstone.

The game itself is a turn-based strategy set in a fictitious World War II in which the Nazis are attempting to use dark arts in order to wield the power of Cthulhu.

“Funders can get access to the ongoing development process and grab a bargain bundle of the game, as well as other Achtung! Cthulhu stuff”

Exploring the inspiration behind the game concept, Tomas explains: “Some of the Nazis were obsessed with the occult and they also had some odd ideas about a lost ‘super race’ which they sent teams all over looking for proof. This game explores the idea: what if that was right?”

Become a backer

The games unique storyline, in combination with the solid reputation of the games companies involved, means its already been backed by over 500 gaming enthusiasts. And with the campaign running until Sunday 4 March, there is still plenty of time to get on board.

Explaining some of the benefits of funding the game via Kickstarter, Tomas adds: “Funders can get access to the ongoing development process and grab a bargain bundle of the game as well as other Achtung! Cthulhu stuff. There’s more yet to be revealed – plus their support adds more content to the project.”

So far this means the game has already had additional characters added – including First Nation specialist soldiers, Pathfinder Demon Hunters (concept pictured left) and the heroic Corporal Singh with his mysterious powers.

Bristol gamers

‘Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics’ also comes at a time of some exciting growth and developments within the Bristol Games Hub, a not-for-profit games development studio and co-working space set up by Auroch Digital along with Ben Trewhella, director of Opposable Games.

Tomas tells us: “As the studio is continuing to expand into bigger and better games, we’re seeing greater industry prominence. For example, we recently gave talks at PC Connects and Gamesforum. We’re also on the lookout for new team members to join us – including a coder and a designer, both with Unity experience.”
