This is Tapmydata – the Privtech company that lets you reclaim your data. Founded in May 2018, this startup is a team of 3 ambitious individuals who are doing some innovative things with data.

Answering 10 questions about the company for us is Tapmydata CTO/ Founder Tom Holder.

1. In your own words – what do you do?

Tap has weaponised GDPR to let consumers take back their data from organisations and exercise their rights.

2. What’s the most exciting thing about what you’re doing?

It feels disruptive, organisations don’t particularly want to be releasing data back to their customers so they put a lot of blockers in place. We help to remove these blockers and make the process seamless and enjoyable for the consumer whilst ensuring organisations are meeting their obligations in a secure and scalable way.

3. What are you most proud of so far?

Shipping a great product. It’s often difficult with a startup to get out of the starting blocks. We’ve done this and from the engagement we’ve had from both consumers and organisations we’re clearly on to something.

4 . What have you found most difficult about being a startup?

Fundraising is hard and really time consuming. There’s not a clearly defined right way to do it so you spend a lot of time learning on the job.

5. What would you do differently if you started now?

I’d probably build less product and raise money sooner. We sunk a lot of time and money into building our product because it’s what we know and are good at, but in reality, we probably could have at least trialled things for less money.

6. Where do you think you’ll be in 12 months?

We are currently in the middle of a fundraiser and it’s looking promising. We’ll close this out soon, so I hope we’ll be settled into growing the business.

7. What tools/people/services/organisations from the cluster have helped you most?

Our early stage investors for believing in what we are up to. Lots of people have been very supportive, but those that have put their money where their mouths are have a special place in my heart!

8. What’s the best thing about the Bristol & Bath tech cluster?

I guess for me, it’s the size of it. Most people know each other or can make an intro to the right person. It feels very supportive.

9. Who will you be nominating for a SPARKie next year?

At the moment it would be Refill. We simply need to stop using the vast quantity of plastic we are and they are doing a great job raising awareness and changing behaviour.

10. Where can we find out more about you?

The Tapmydata website, or download the app.

Thanks and congratulations to Tapmydata who found themselves on The SPARKies nominations list this year.
