Alongside this year’s Silicon Gorge: Autumn Edition we’re publishing profiles of a few of the companies that have made it through to the heats. To kick things off we have Data Duopolycheck out the full list of winners here!

Answering our questions today is CEO & Co-founder Tanuvi Ethunandan (pictured below):

1. What does your company do?

Data Duopoly incentivises visitors to explore and we gather powerful data insights to shape a venues’ future.

Data Duopoly is driven by data and creativity to create the best possible visitor experience. Our co-founders, Tanuvi, a data whizz, and Erin, a creative wonder, identified a need by venues to better understand their visitors’ behaviours on-site, to improve visitors’ experiences and ultimately increase their revenues.

We were founded in 2019 and have grown from a team of 2 to 6. Since then we have worked with leading visitor attractions, including the Eden Project and National Trust Partnership, and continue to work with a leading University.

2. What problem are you trying to solve?

We solve the issue of congestion and frustrations experienced by visitors by facilitating personalised incentives to discover and navigate venues. We provide unique data insights to venues to help them make informed operational and strategic decisions.

3. What makes your solution unique?

We want to be the “Waze” of venue navigation, working to create a better experience for visitors and helping venues make better decisions using data. Our technology is scalable, and we want to be in shopping centres, campuses, event stadiums and visitor attractions worldwide.

4. What are you most proud of so far?

Two things immediately come to mind!

First, despite a global pandemic, Data Duopoly in the last two years has worked with industry leaders as early adopters, and our technology is part of the solution for the post-Covid visitor experience. We launched our XplorTINCOAST app with the Cornish Tin Coast in partnership with the National Trust and we are now working with a leading university to bring students and staff safely back to campus. It is fantastic to see our technology in action and people using it during their day out!

The second one is closing our quarter of a million pound seed round earlier this year!

5. How much are you raising and what do you want to use investment for?

We are currently raising £600k EIS for our “avocado” (large seed) round. We want to use the investment to scale into 20 visitor attraction sites, 5 university campuses at the start of the next academic year and 10 town centres in the next 12 months. We are an ambitious team, who have a strong sales pipeline and we are excited to embark on our next stage of growth!

6. What tools/people/services/organisations helped you most?

We are very grateful for the support we have received from the Space sector here in Cornwall, which has supported us with our growth. Both the European Space Agency and Aerospace Cornwall backed us during our seed round, along with our fantastic angel investors. In addition, we are thrilled to have such a fabulous team (and I know we are biased, but it is true!) who are helping us achieve our mission to revolutionise the visitor experience in any venue worldwide.
