Happy February everyone! As we move into the second month of 2022, we’re shifting our focus to all things Startups.

Startups and entrepreneurs are the beating heart of our tech and digital community in the South West. As they continue to push the boundaries of innovation, we’ll be sharing resources that help support growth and hear from founders themselves to share their experiences with the help of our wonderful Startup Month sponsors, Gravitywell.

Gravitywell is a Bristol-based Digital Innovation agency for startups. An approachable team with industry-leading experience, they specialise in taking tech startups from ideation, through to prototyping, design, production and launch.

But we wanted to give Gravitywell a TechSPARK style introduction, so you can find out all about the agency through our 10 familiar startup questions. Watch the video or read the interview here!

Introducing Gravitywell

"Innovation is in our DNA, so we’re always embracing cutting-edge tech for use in projects."

— Hugo Walker, Head of Marketing & Digital Content

1 – In your own words – what does Gravitywell do?

Gravitywell is a Creative Technology agency that helps innovative startups from conception to launch and beyond. Our multi-disciplined team comprises of full-stack developers, designers and strategists who utilise new technologies and understand how to deliver a successful product for our clients.

2 – What’s the most exciting thing about what you’re doing?

Innovation is in our DNA, so we’re always embracing cutting-edge tech for use in projects. We’re constantly discovering; whether it’s a machine learning tool for an AI startup or a bespoke software platform for the space industry.

We also devote time each month for internal R&D, as well as our annual week away in the sun — sorry, I mean yearly hackathon. We’ll be heading to southern Spain once again in 2022 (volatile pandemic rules allowing, of course).

3 – What are you most proud of so far?

We’re super proud of Mezze, our own SaaS product for the food manufacturing industry. We only launched in November 2020 and it’s already doing £1.5m of client business per month.

Another headline project (as yet unreleased) is helping the biggest Social Media platforms fix a problem that affects a minority group in a very severe way.

Finally, the incredible opportunities arriving on our doorstep due to the work we’ve done over the past few years and the fact that we can now confidently say: “we don’t do websites”.

4 – What have you found most difficult about being an agency for startups?

Every project being different makes life exciting but it’s a double-edged sword. We need to constantly adapt our processes for the huge variety of challenges that come our way.

5 – What would you do differently if you started now?

Probably get in touch with TechSPARK sooner! Building a local network is extremely valuable for an agency and the work your team are doing for tech in the South West is superb.

6 – Where do you think Gravitywell will be in 12 months?

Spain would be nice.

But also, not much bigger — hopefully! We’d love more great clients and to delve deeper into AI via our sister company, Clever Stuff, but retaining the je ne sais quoi that comes from being a small, close-knit team is so important for us.

Our internal tech webinar, Technically Speaking, is also set to be released into the wild, so we have high hopes that it can be a source of inspiration and a platform of discussion for the tech community in Bristol and beyond!

7 – What tools/people/services/organisations from the cluster have helped you most?

Our new friends at Impact Working have been a positive influence on the team since we started working together a few months ago. They foster a welcoming atmosphere, provide excellent networking opportunities and are very much in line with our B Corp aspirations.

8 – What’s the best thing about the Bristol & Bath tech cluster?

The network of engaged agency owners is superb — everyone wants to help and is available for advice. The South West is exceptional for collaboration and we’re truly grateful to be part of that.

9 – Who will you be nominating for a SPARKie next year?

Much like congenial countries vote for each other in Eurovision based on geopolitical factors, it would be remiss to ignore HdE Agency’s stunning delivery of Espresso Martinis at the SPARKies 2021. In all seriousness, there are so many worthy winners doing great things in our tech hub it’s hard to single one out.

10 – Where can we find out more about you?

Check out our website, it’s all there. You can also find us on LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. We also share our favourite tech in two-minute chunks every other Tuesday on our YouTube channel.
