The annual Silicon Gorge pitching competition came to a close for 2023 at the Investor Showcase last month. We were blown away by the caliber of applicants and witling it down from almost 70 entrepreneurs to 24 finalists to eventually just 13 winners was no mean feat.
We landed on 13 standout startups, specialising in sectors from health tech to green tech. We were super impressed by them all on the day and cannot wait to see what happens next for the fantastic entrepreneurs. Thanks to Cintra Global and our fabulous Investment Activator Partners for supporting Silicon Gorge.
As part of the competition, we’re sharing profiles of those startups who made it through the heats. Next up is Curtis Anderson, founder and CEO at Workbit.
1 – What does your company do?
Workbit is at the forefront of transforming how organisations manage and deliver personalised training at scale. Our flagship product, Workbit Author, is a cutting-edge training content management system that blends advanced technology with a user-friendly interface.

We’re enabling businesses to streamline their e-learning, classroom-based training, and documentation processes. Moreover, we’re enhancing security, resilience, and auditability whilst future-proofing content architecture and even incorporating the capability for AI-generated content. We are building a world-class training management platform that bolsters training outcomes and drives business success.
2 – What problem are you trying to solve?
Traditional methods can be time-consuming, ineffective, and costly in the world of complex system training. Companies often struggle with outdated training systems, lacking the sophistication to adapt to changing business needs or the agility to update training content swiftly.
We’ve also observed gaps in security, resilience, and audit trails in these systems. Moreover, the future is here with AI, but many businesses are yet to harness its power in training content creation and often don’t even know where to apply it.
Workbit aims to solve these problems. Our mission is to revolutionise training by providing an agile, secure, and intelligent training content management system. We’re enhancing the effectiveness of training and significantly reducing development lead times and costs, thereby providing businesses with a compelling return on investment.
3 – What makes your solution unique?
Our solution, Workbit Author, is unique in its holistic approach to training content management. Unlike many platforms that only provide e-learning or classroom-based training capabilities, Workbit Author caters to both and extends to documentation and VR experiences.
Workbit Author is also designed to future-proof content architecture, providing businesses with a solution that evolves with their needs.
One of the standout features of our platform is its advanced business and learning intelligence. With this, organisations can glean valuable insights into the effectiveness of their training programmes, helping them continually improve and optimise.
Lastly, the success stories we’ve cultivated, like our partnership with Leonardo Helicopters, testify to the transformative potential of our platform. We’ve proven that Workbit Author can significantly reduce lead times and yield substantial cost savings, making it an advantageous investment for businesses, particularly high-tech OEMs.
4 – What are you most proud of so far?
I’m most proud of the positive impact we’ve had on the organisations we’ve worked with. For instance, our partnership with Leonardo Helicopters is a prime example of how Workbit Author can transform a company’s training process. We helped them reduce development lead times from 25 days to just 3 days on some projects, resulting in significant cost savings.
Our work with Leonardo Helicopters has improved their training programme and allowed them to reallocate resources more effectively. They now advocate the benefits of our platform both internally and externally, which is a testament to the value we provide.
Moreover, I’m incredibly proud of our team, whose expertise and experience have been vital in building a world-class training management platform. Their dedication and hard work have brought us to where we are today, and I’m excited to see where we’ll go next.

5 – How much are you raising and what do you want to use investment for?
We’re in the process of raising a £1 million Series A round. The lion’s share of these funds, 45%, is earmarked for product development to enhance our platform and grow our dev team. Another 35% is slated for sales, which is crucial for acquiring new customers and bolstering revenue. The final 20% is set aside for strategic marketing campaigns to raise our brand profile.
This investment is crucial for our immediate objectives and our larger ambition to scale our business across industries, ensuring that Workbit Author becomes a go-to solution for training needs worldwide.
6 – What tools/people/services/organisations helped you most?
At the core of Workbit are our people – our dedicated team. They’ve poured their unique skills and passion into this venture, driving us to where we are today. The breadth of expertise and capabilities that they bring is simply remarkable.
We’ve been fortunate to collaborate with esteemed organisations like Leonardo Helicopters and NATO. These partnerships have provided invaluable real-world insights that have shaped and honed our platform.
Then there’s our lead investor, Paul Rowley, a highly respected enterprise IT infrastructure management figure. His guidance and insights have been instrumental in helping us refine our product and market strategy.
In terms of tools and services: GitHub, Visual Studio Code, AWS and the Microsoft Office Suite have been daily staples.
But let’s not forget the role of chance. There’s been a good measure of luck involved, too – being in the right place at the right time, meeting the right people, and seizing the right opportunities. And while luck isn’t a strategy, we’ve always tried to position ourselves to be ready to capitalise on it when it comes our way.
