We’ve been super excited to share details about the comedian that will be compering our iconic awards show this year. The insanely talented Emmanuel Sonubi will be taking centre stage to take care of our SPARKies attendees and welcome our winners.
No stranger to hosting awards shows, we cannot wait for Emmanuel to grace the South West with his warm and hilarious presence. Nominated for the ‘Best Show’ at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2023 and ‘Best Newcomer’ in 2022, Emmanuel is one of the hottest comedians on the comedy circuit right now.
He tells us, “When it comes to any type of performance, I never go in with expectations. Just an open mind. Every audience is different. The only thing I ever think is that this night is a big deal for a lot of people, so I have to do my best to make it so.”
He’s only been on the comedy circuit for what feels like five minutes and he’s already garnering himself a reputation as the one to watch. Having gone from open spot to closing then hosting the BBC’s “Live at the Apollo” in an incredibly short space of time, he has become one of funniest and most sought after acts working today. Check out his standup below.
Emmanuel was recently on Have I Got News For You, QI, Alan Davies; As Yet Untitled, Pointless Celebrities, Rhod Gilberts Growing Pains, Mel Giedroycs Unforgivable, Rosie Jones’ Out of Order, The Hitlist, The John Bishop Show, Stand Up Sketch Show and Comedy Central Live with a host of show still to be aired and his own shows in development.
He’ performed at many of the largest clubs, theatres and Arenas across the world and was invited to Just for Laughs in Montreal which was the biggest comedy festival in the world and has also performed at such prestigious festivals as the Altitude Comedy Festival in Austria, Glastonbury and numerous music festivals across the UK. Emmanuel is undoubtedly on a roll right now, boasting a European tour consisting of many sold out nights.
And don’t just take our word for it. Romesh Ranganathan says about Emmanuel, “The bloke has got funny bones. He’s incredibly likeable despite looking like he could snap you in two”
When we asked what his perception of the South West, Emmanuel says, “I’ll tell you after. So if we think about it, the pressures on you guys.” So come along and we’ll demonstrate how awesome our local tech and digital community is.
