Bristol ranked highest outside the Golden Triangle for spinout value creation
The University of Bristol has been recognised as the highest-ranked university outside the UK’s Golden Triangle for spinout value creation, with its venture-backed companies generating a combined £8.5 billion in value since 2010.
The latest Spotlight on Spinouts 2026 report highlights Bristol’s growing strength in innovation, deep tech and entrepreneurship, with successful spinouts including PsiQuantum, Graphcore, Phasecraft and Scarlet Therapeutics helping to cement the city’s reputation as a leading hub for research commercialisation.

Bristol creative tech firm wins three global industry awards
Bristol-based interactive video platform Stornaway.io has made history by becoming the first company in the 22-year history of the ITVT/TVOT Leadership Awards to win three categories in a single year.
Founded in 2020, the female-led company was recognised alongside major global media brands for its work in interactive storytelling, accessibility and user experience, further showcasing Bristol’s growing influence in the global creative technology sector.

Bristol construction tech startup secures £4m to scale low-carbon materials
Bristol-based biotech company Mykor has raised £4m in funding to accelerate the development and manufacturing of sustainable construction materials made from industrial and agricultural waste.
Using biofabrication technology and engineered mycelium, the company is creating low-carbon alternatives to traditional building products, helping tackle one of the construction industry’s biggest sustainability challenges.

Dorset sustainability startup Circular11 raises £2.4m to scale plastic recycling technology
Dorset-based Circular11 has secured £2.4m in funding to accelerate production of sustainable construction materials made from hard-to-recycle plastic waste.
The investment will help the company expand its manufacturing capabilities and recycle an estimated 10,000 tonnes of plastic waste over the next two years, supporting the transition to more sustainable, low-carbon building materials.
