Bristol-based Micrima officially launched the UK’s first breast density scanning clinic yesterday, using its homegrown Mi~Scan technology to help women better understand an important risk factor linked to breast cancer.
The new clinic offers a quick, radiation-free scan that measures breast density, providing personalised insights into breast health and marking a significant step forward in preventative healthcare innovation developed in the South West.

Aardman co-founders awarded knighthoods in King’s Birthday Honours
Aardman Animations co-founders Peter Lord and David Sproxton have been awarded knighthoods in the King’s Birthday Honours, recognising their outstanding contributions to animation, the creative industries and charitable work.
The Bristol-based duo built Aardman into one of the UK’s most celebrated studios, creating iconic characters including Wallace & Gromit, Morph and Chicken Run, while helping establish the South West as a global hub for creative excellence.

Weston College launches AMTEC following national recognition
Following its designation as one of just four Technical Excellence Colleges for Advanced Manufacturing in England, Weston College has unveiled AMTEC (Advanced Manufacturing Technical Excellence College), a new training hub set to open at Airbus Filton this September.
Designed in partnership with industry, AMTEC will support skills development across aerospace, engineering, defence and advanced manufacturing, helping to strengthen the South West’s future workforce and support regional economic growth.

Swindon chosen for new Ministry of Defence drone testing centre
Swindon’s position as a leading UK hub for drone technology has received a major boost with the announcement of a new Ministry of Defence Uncrewed Systems Centre in the town.
The facility will support the development and testing of drones, autonomous vehicles and AI-enabled defence systems, while creating skilled jobs and attracting further investment into the region’s growing defence and technology sector.

Bath eyewear firm partners with Qualcomm to develop next-generation smart glasses
Bath-based eyewear group Inspecs has teamed up with US technology giant Qualcomm to accelerate the development of smart eyewear, combining cutting-edge wearable technology with Inspecs’ global design, manufacturing and distribution expertise.
The partnership, backed by a $10m (£7.5m) investment from Qualcomm Technologies, positions Inspecs at the forefront of a rapidly growing market for AI-powered and connected wearable devices.
