Cornwall-based Goonhilly Earth Station has been acquired by Nasdaq-listed Intuitive Machines, strengthening its global infrastructure for lunar and deep space missions. The deal brings Goonhilly’s deep space communications expertise and ground station capabilities into a growing network supporting future NASA and commercial space missions.

Bristol startup raises £600k to tackle AI data centre energy waste
Bristol-based HexSeed Technology has raised more than £600,000 to develop diamond coating technology designed to make AI data centres more energy efficient. Working with researchers at the University of Bristol, the startup aims to reduce heat and energy waste in power components, helping address the growing energy demands of AI and cloud computing.

Bournemouth-based care software provider Nourish has secured around £20 million in strategic investment from Hg to support its next phase of growth. Bristol founder named among UK’s most influential women in tech
Bristol tech founder Dr Zara Nanu has been named on Computer Weekly’s 2026 longlist of the Most Influential Women in UK Tech. Founder of Gapsquare and WorkVue, Zara has used technology, data and machine learning to tackle workplace inequality and help people navigate their careers, joining several other women from the West of England recognised on this year’s list.

Gloucestershire digital risk startup secures £500k investment
Gloucestershire-based Safehire.ai has secured a £500,000 follow-on investment to scale its AI-powered digital risk screening platform. Founded by two former British Army officers, the company combines AI with human intelligence analysis to help organisations identify potential risks and make more informed hiring and access decisions.

AI adoption drives new jobs across South West businesses
AI is already having a positive impact on employment across the South West, with 48% of businesses using the technology saying it has created new jobs, according to research from Lloyds. As adoption grows, firms are also investing in AI skills, with nearly half planning to increase spending on workforce training over the next year.
