Turn Up #2 — A Creative, Design + Tech meet-up • Bath
We’re back! And we’re celebrating all things typographic with our latest event — “You’re my Type”.
Welcome to the second Turn Up event — “You’re my Type”.
We’re celebrating Bath’s creative community with an informal night of four speakers from the design + creative industry, a few drinks and a natter at Matter who are our lovely venue host for the night.
For March’s event, five very unique creatives will guide you through their approach and how they’ve gone about carving a space for themselves in their niche.
Speakers:
Elizabeth Ellis and David Marshall of The Counterpress
A creative practice concerned with fine typographic design and printed material. Using only traditionalwood and metal type — composed, arranged and letterpress printedby hand — it is a contemporary exploration of this centuries-old craft through the design and production of fine press books, broadsides, and other limited edition printed matter.
Dan Anderson Bespoke Lettering
Dan Anderson is a well regarded and sought after letter cutter and designer based in the UK.
Having worked for 20 years for renowned stone carver and sculptor Philip Thomason undertaking commissions all over the world, Dan now has his own workshop based in Somerset.
All of the work is designed and drawn by hand and then carved in the traditional way with mallet and chisel. Whether it’s a headstone, plaque, sun dial or house sign, every commission starts with a pencil. Dan regularly sends work across the globe, recently to New Zealand, California and Cyprus.
The largest local commission to date is at The Newt in Somerset.
Athena Cauley-Yu from Meticulous Ink
With a fine art background, Athena opened Meticulous Ink — her fine stationery and letterpress printshop — in Bath in 2010. A creative entrepreneur with a passion for analogue, the world of stationery and letterpress printing has become an outlet for her creativity, and a perfect excuse for her hoarding tendencies.
Tobias Newbigin of Newbigin Signs
Specialising in traditional sign writing, letter cutting & decorative arts, Tobias uses time tested techniques and specialist materials to craft beautiful, long lasting signs and lettering for all applications. Skilled in gold leaf, calligraphy, fine art and sculpture to namea few, Tobias’ work is meticulously tailored to each project.
