Disrupt South West have announced the return of their 2018 ‘DisruptSW Index’ for the second year running.

‘Disrupt South West’ is a new event series that brings South West start-ups, corporates and investors under one roof, to explore and celebrate innovation taking place in the region. As one of the UK’s leading tech clusters, it provides an opportunity for Disrupters and those associated to showcase, educate, share and connect with like-minded industry professionals. Underpinning the series is the  ‘Disrupter’ Index, a 25-strong venture list highlighting success and growth stories across the South West.

The Index is a collaboration from ADLIBFoot Anstey, and Tällt Ventures, and recognises the top 25 ventures with headquarters in the region who hold the greatest potential to influence, change or create new markets. Matt Connolly (left), founder of Tällt Ventures, said: “It’s brilliant to see the local talent the South West produces and that ventures here are getting the recognition, investment and support they need and deserve to scale. We’re really proud to have our HQ here in Bristol and to be a part of such a smart, creative and disruptive community; DisruptSW is a great celebration of that.”

This year’s ‘DisruptSW Index’ was created by analysing South West businesses against three essential ingredients fundamental to success and enabling them to disrupt; their People, Product and Potential. The Index in 2017 spanned industries including robotics, autonomous systems, VR, cybersecurity, big data and FinTech.  Companies featured on 2017 index include Graphcore who have since raised $50 million, OpenBionics who have released a 3D printed bionic limb for children and  Ultrahaptics who have won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

Nick Dean (right),Nick Dean at Adlib MD at ADLIB, commented: “Since launching the Index we’ve witnessed unprecedented demand to meet the needs of the South West’s thriving and recognised tech cluster.  The scale-up enabler yearbook cited that there are currently 700 scale-up businesses identified in the South West alone which is the tip of the iceberg and demonstrates the size of what’s happening out there.”

The 2018 Index will be revealed at an invitation-only launch celebration, ‘DisruptSW reimagined’, held on Thursday 27 September 2018 in Bristol and set to celebrate the very best in South West imagination and innovation. The launch event will be sponsored by ForrestBrown, an award-winning research and development (R&D) tax credit consultancy firm that helps innovative businesses grow.
