Reach Robotics secures $7.5 million foreign investment
Noted for their lead role in contributing to the future of gaming by fusing robotics and competitive play, Bristol-based Reach Robotics have secured an unprecedented $7.5m (£5.8m) in Series A funding.
The company, which is based at tech incubator Future Space – UWE, was founded by Silas Adunkle, Chris Beck and John Rees, with the aim of developing a new generation of cutting-edge robotic technology, which bridged robotics, augmented reality and mobile gaming. Shortly after being founded MekaMon the intelligent gaming robot was created which boasts multi-functional qualities and, augmented reality capabilities.
As we reported back in December 2016, the MekaMon is an impressive looking real-life robot that can battle with other robots – and not just in the physical world, but in the virtual world too.

The new round of funding, which was co-led by Korea Investment Partners (Kip) and IGlobe, has been described by Silas, a UWE graduate, as giving Reach Robotics the ability to “move to the next exciting chapter of our company, strengthen our team and capitalise on some of the amazing partnerships that are developing around the globe”. Silas aims to make “Mekamon a global household brand in its market sector” using the capital injection as the main driving force behind this.

The investment has been secured at a crucial time, as Reach Robotics confirms that the very first Mekamon robots are now shipping for a global beta-test program. Silas explains, “We have 500 MekaMon that will be shipped to our early registered customers around the world. They will become the start of our global community and help us hone the MekaMon experience as a next level robotic, augmented reality and gaming platform.”
More exciting developments
To coincide with the investment, Reach Robotics are also expanding their team with two new appointments. Sean Ratcliffe, who will be the Chief Marketing Officer, who also has 25 years of experience in gaming across various companies like Lego, Disney and SEGA. Alex Peters, who has joined the team with a focus on strategy, business development and partnership opportunities, is a veteran of the gaming industry in production who has held senior roles in Electronic Arts and Activision.
