Product Development Manager
Invest Bristol and Bath
I work for Invest Bristol and Bath, whose job is to promote the region as somewhere to do business and help companies locate here and grow. McKinsey & co released a Centre for Cities report showing that Bristol and Bath is the only ‘fast growing, globally significant’ cluster of tech firms outside of London, and we’ve been working to make sure we can take that message globally and help it continue to grow! It’s really important to work with the tech scene here and get everyone on board, ultimately the people working for and running tech businesses locally are our best ambassadors.
“I’m looking for projects that are at the bleeding edge and change the way people work”
What excites you most about the tech scene in Bristol, Bath and the South West?
I think the most exciting thing about the tech scene is how much it’s growing! I see more and more people coming from London, the rest of the country and internationally who have heard about some of the amazing talent here and want to be involved. It’s brilliant to see companies who want to locate here and grow from massive firms like JUST EAT and Nvidia to really innovative guys like Somo.
What are you hoping to see from the SPARKies nominees?
Bristol and Bath is really strong in lots of different industries from aerospace through to high tech, low carbon and digital. What’s really exciting though, is the companies that are developing projects across those industries that are at the bleeding edge and change the way people work. There’s a real benefit in being somewhere big enough to scale but small enough to not be silo’d in one industry. The more we see of companies taking advantage of all the industries here and selling that globally the better!
