The University of Bristol is aiming to create the next generation of entrepreneurs in quantum technology through a quantum technology accelerator programme that offers a year’s salary and other financial support.

The Quantum Technology Enterprise Centre is run jointly by the University of Bristol and Cranfield University as a world-leading hub to train entrepreneurially minded quantum systems engineers as part of the National Quantum Technology (QT) Programme. It brings together companies, investors, and the facilities and skills essential for the incubation of early-stage businesses and is holding an open day on the 4 May.

QTEC takes advantage of the world-leading research at Bristol and focusses on four key areas: Quantum Technologies; Systems and Design Engineering; Enterprise, Entrepreneurship and Innovation; and Connectivity and Networks. There are already several startups set to spin out of the first year’s programme specialising in areas like quantum security.

Training the quantum entrepreneurs of the future

The QTEC programme supports postgraduate qualified individuals through the Quantum Enterprise Fellowship Programme. Throughout the programme, fellows will develop skills in quantum engineering, business and enterprise allowing them to become the leaders and entrepreneurs who will take quantum science discoveries out of the lab and into society.

The year-long programme based in the University of Bristol includes:

  • World class MBA level training and tutoring at the Bettany Centre for Entrepreneurship – Cranfield University
  • Systems Engineering and Design training with University of Bristol
  • Incubator space within the QETLabs, a world leading hub of quantum research at the University of Bristol. Directly networked in to the UK National Quantum Technologies Programme and part of a large global research and innovation community. Work alongside researchers at the leading edge of quantum technolgies from across the world
  • A permanently resident Enterprise Teaching Fellow and visiting Entrepreneurs in Residence who provide mentoring and coaching
  • Direct links to SetSquared and EngineShed, the globally number one ranked university business incubator
  • Extensive networking and investment opportunities throughout the year
  • A £28,000 salary to develop the business, the largest salary available for start-up and incubator courses of this type.
  • A £5000 personal travel budget
  • Funds available for concept demonstrator development
