Substantial growth in the South West’s creative industry and its overlap into film, theatre, music, digital, visual art, installation and publishing has led to the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) to launch a brand new MA course in Creative Producing.

“The MA will offer students access to the brightest and most ambitious producers in the South West”

The university will be collaborating with Bristol Watershed’s Pervasive Media Studio, after being inspired by its work helping some of the most unique and innovative creative minds to develop their ideas.

Clare Reddington (pictured left), Creative Director of Watershed, says: “I am delighted that the Pervasive Media Studio is collaborating with UWE Bristol’s practical and critically focused Creative Producer MA. The Creative Producer is an increasingly sought after role.

“The course has been designed and taught by leading figures in the field and will introduce students to the many and varied facets of the subject, as well as providing much-needed training in the skills required to bring bold, new, ambitious projects to life.”

Creative career pathway

One of the key purposes of the course is to provide emerging producers with a professional interest in traditional art forms and digital technology a springboard into a career in innovation in the cultural and creative sectors or a step towards further postgraduate research.

“We will support new producers to make the most of Bristol’s creative industries”

It includes working placements with key arts, digital and tech producers in the South West, and an opportunity to produce a creative project – covering all aspects of the creative journey from formulating the idea with creative teams, to funding, project management and evaluation.

UWE Bristol Professor Jon Dovey adds: “We are excited by the opportunity that our new MA will offer. Designed by UWE Bristol and Watershed, the MA will offer students access to the brightest and most ambitious producers in the South West.

“For those with their eye on a possible career as a producer this will provide a valuable springboard. We will support new producers to make the most of Bristol’s creative industries which are overflowing with ideas and talent, and now needs people with the drive and know-how to take the sector forward.”
