Develop Me, Bristol’s first ever school dedicated to teaching people how to code, will launch its first ever part-time coding bootcamp this autumn to allow aspiring developers to learn in their free time without interrupting their careers.
“The course is ideally suited to everyone from entrepreneurs to marketers, return-to-workers to career-changers”
The course, which teaches the fundamentals of front-end web development, will run during the evenings and 2 Saturdays over the course of 6 weeks to offer a kick start to any beginner coder, getting them up to scratch and ready to build and host their own website from the ground up.
The course will cover coding mobile-friendly, responsive websites from scratch, using HTML5 and CSS3 and the latest web development practices from industry experts.
Along the way, students will also learn about modern project processes, tools and frameworks (Sass and Bootstrap). As well as the latest CSS layout techniques (such as CSS Grid and Flexbox), accessibility and web performance.
A digital workplace
This is a course that’s particularly useful to those with childcare and 9-5 day job restrictions or those who are concerned about keeping up with an increasingly digital workplace.
As Develop Me’s Director Pete New tells us: “The course is ideally suited to everyone from entrepreneurs to marketers, return-to-workers to career-changers.
“With digital roles also paying 44% more than the national average wage, there has never been a better time to take your first steps towards a new career in the digital industries.”
To get an idea of what studying with Develop Me might be like, check out the video testimonial below from a previous full-time student:
Just like their full-time Coding Fellowship, Develop Me’s part-time offering will be taught by industry experts. In this case, the course will be led by Ruth John, a Google Developer Expert, renowned conference speaker and front-end developer. The course will be offered to just 10 students to ensure all the help and support they need and with significant interest already, they recommend getting in touch soon to avoid disappointment.
Coding for all
To jump on board this new coding course, you’ll need to invest £1500. But for mothers looking to boost their skills on their return to work, there are also three subsidised places on offer. One will be offered a place for free with the other two places on offer for just £500 each.
Develop Me’s Marketing Manager Sara New explains: “Many parents, but arguably mothers most of all, suffer from a loss of confidence when returning to work after taking time out for maternity leave. This course will not only provide the digital skills to make you invaluable to many industries but could also offer the chance to work more flexibly.
“With a recognised digital skills shortage, there has never been more demand for people with digital skills, and many opt to work remotely, or even freelance, in order to work flexibly to fit in with family life. Whether you’ve been out of work place for six months or six years, this course will help future proof your CV for an evolving jobs market.”
The first part-time course will be held at the Paintworks in Bristol from 30 September – 7 November and costs £1500. To apply for a subsidised place, email hello@developme.training with more information about your situation and why you want to do the course.
You can also join Develop Me for a free taster evening to find out more about the course or get in touch via the Develop Me website to request an info pack. You can also keep track of the latest updates by following them on Twitter here: @develop_me_uk.
