Speakers from the Treasury, the Bank of England and regulator Financial Conduct Authority FCA) are coming to Bristol tomorrow as part of a leading conference.
Bristol TechFin 2017, run by High Tech Bristol and Bath on 7 November at the Watershed, is looking at the underlying technology of finance systems.

“I would say that machine learning and AI is underpinning most advancements in FinTech but I’m most excited by how blockchain, perhaps through BitCoin, has started to gain mainstream momentum,” says Wincie Wong, the digital propositions lead at RBS and a keynote speaker (pictured right).
“Technology is transforming the financial services and Bristol is uniquely placed to drive those changes,” says organiser John Bradford (pictured left). “With over 30 years legacy at the forefront of pioneering technology development, and a thriving startup ecosystem, we are one of the few places globally that can address the full stack of technologies for the future.”

They are joined by leading West of England experts Phil Bates (Oracle), Derek Ahmedzai (Fundsurfer), James Craig (True Digital), Dave Tonge (Moneyhub Enterprise), Dr Holly Powley (Bristol University), Jaya Chakrabarti (TISCorg.com), Prof Alan Winfield (University of the West of England), Charles Radclyffe (independent consultant), Peter Rogers (1060 Research), Duncan Pauly (Edge Intelligence), and Matt Connolly (Tallt Ventures).
Transforming tech
The conference is aimed at developers of big data, AI, cloud, cyber security, identity management and quantum technologies that may have an application in the new financial services industry. It will also highlight the latest technology that will be transforming the industry.
“Recognising the key role that high tech and the financial services has to play in the regional economy, we will have Thangam Debbonaire MP, who is a member of the all party FinTech parliamentary group to close the conference,” adds Bradford. “This is a unique opportunity to find out what is happening in the world of FinTech, how Bristol is leading the way, what the opportunities are, and how technology can help transform the industry.
“As the regulatory panel is under Chatham House rule (at the request of the panelists to enable full participation), the only way to know what was discussed will be to attend.”
