Ecotricity – the green energy pioneer – has announced the opening of a new office in Bristol, its first in the city. The Ecotricity Tech Hub will open in early 2018 and the firm is finalising discussions with a provider of office space for tech startups and digital teams in the city centre.

Founded in 1995 by Dale Vince with just one windmill, Ecotricity now supplies over 200,000 customers with green electricity and gas. Ecotricity also created and operates the Electric Highway – the country’s first national charging network for electric vehicles – and runs Forest Green Rovers, recently described by FIFA as the “world’s greenest football club”.
Green tech talent
One of a surge of pioneering tech companies moving to the city to take advantage of its vibrant tech community and local talent, the company hopes to have recruited a team of full-stack developers, along with a digital development lead, in the city by the end of 2018, in order to help transform the experience of its customers.

But as well as working on Ecotricity’s digital experience, its new Bristol-based team will be contributing to a range of exciting new connected home projects with aims to help people better manage their carbon footprint.
Dan Goodall (pictured left), Ecotricity’s Technology & Transformation Director who’ll be overseeing the Bristol office, says: “We have great talent in our technology team in Stroud, but we’re creating a presence that will tap into the wider Bristol and West digital and tech ecosystem in the city and surrounding area. We’re keen to drive the green agenda in the future of the connected home and the connected city, and Bristol is at the forefront of our thinking.”
