Huawei have announced the opening of an R&D tech centre in Bristol later in 2014. The company is aiming to hire 30 senior R&D staff in the first phase and the office will focus mainly on ICT chip design & software.
This is Huawei second R&D centre in the UK (their first one is in Ipswich following an acquisition) and follows the opening of their European HQ in Reading late last year as well as the announcement of £10m investment in education projects with Southampton University and Imperial.
Bristol was chosen as it is an established technical hub with a particularly strong reputation in chip design and with a talent pool to match its reputation. Huawei’s acting CEO, Guo Ping said, “The UK is forward-thinking, progressive, and fosters innovation. This creativity is a major asset to our R&D efforts and gives us the perfect platform to continue pioneering the new, ground-breaking technologies that are building the future.”
