Wessex Water has recently launched a free game app for iOS and Android devices which provides insight into what the company does beyond providing water and taking away waste. It’s called WOWSER! which stands for World Of Water, Sewage, Environment and Recreation.
WOWSER enables to you test your skills by completing jobs such as fixing leaks, lagging pipes, tackling blocked sewers and even tracking down wildlife and spotting bogus callers! WOWSER! has been designed to appeal particularly to younger customers but also homeowners in general, with top tips on protecting their home and saving money off their metered bill.
“The game takes the player through a range of fast-paced, interactive challenges that demonstrate some of our other duties as a water company, including stopping leaks, educating customers on ways to save water and preventing sewer blockages to protecting the environment,” explains Clive Tugwell, head of digital at Wessex Water.
“We hope players will enjoy interacting with the app to find out about the issues we face as a business, the challenges met by our great employees and that it is actually an exciting industry to work in”
While the interactive challenges are simple, the user must complete the tasks in a limited time – it’s pretty fast and frantic! It’s similar in concept to the popular educational game Dumb Ways To Die.

Raising-awareness apps
Wessex Water launched a similar app game called Bag It & Bin It, in 2012: “This was created to raise awareness of what our customers should and shouldn’t flush down the loo, due to a high number of sewer blockages being caused in our region from things like wet wipes and ‘flushable’ wipes,” says Clive.
If you would like to discover more and get involved with what Wessex Water, you can find them at summer events around the region, such as the Bristol Harbourside Festival. At events like this, customers can pop in and have a chat about any queries they may have or get some advice about saving water and protecting their home from blockages.
“We also run a free education service, both for children and adults, whereby groups can visit one of our treatment sites and learn about how we provide clean safe drinking water to customers and what happens to their waste once it’s taken away,” says Clive.
The educational game is now available to download for free on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store for Android devices.
If you would like to get in touch, you can speak to a member of the services team through the Live Chat feature on the Wessex Water website or on Twitter and Facebook.
